The Dog Lover’s Guide to Cape May:

Our Favorite Pet-Friendly Spots

Cape May is one of the Jersey Shore’s most welcoming destinations for travelers with dogs — and if you’re staying at one of our pet-friendly Eastcote Homestays properties, you’re already in great shape. We’ve put together our favorite local spots to help you and your pup make the most of your Cape May vacation.

Higbee Beach — Off-Leash Heaven

If there’s one place every dog visiting Cape May needs to go, it’s Higbee Beach. Located on the Delaware Bay side of the Cape May peninsula, Higbee Beach is one of the only spots in the area where dogs can run off-leash and splash in the water freely. The wide, unspoiled beach is a favorite with locals year-round, and the calm bay waters are perfect for dogs who love to swim. Pack some water, a towel, and a ball — your dog will be in absolute heaven.

*at special times of the year, the famous Ghost Tracks appear here!

Note: Cape May City’s ocean beaches do not allow dogs in season (Memorial Day through Labor Day), so Higbee and the Delaware Bay beaches are your go-to during summer visits.

Beach Plum Farm — A Farm Day with Your Pup

Tucked away in West Cape May, Beach Plum Farm is a stunning 62-acre working farm that welcomes leashed dogs and their humans. Wander through beautifully manicured gardens, browse the farm stand, and soak up the pastoral beauty that feels a world away from the beach crowds. The farm also has a dog-friendly outdoor dining area, making it a lovely spot for a relaxed lunch with your four-legged travel companion. It’s one of the most uniquely Cape May experiences you can have — and dogs are absolutely welcome along for the ride.

5 Dog-Friendly Restaurants in Cape May

Dining out with your dog is very doable in Cape May. Most dog-friendly spots offer outdoor patio seating, water bowls, and in some cases even a dedicated dog menu. Here are five of our favorites:

Blue Pig Tavern at Congress Hall
One of the most popular dog-friendly patios in Cape May, Blue Pig Tavern serves up elevated comfort food — think baked mac and cheese, grilled reubens, and smoked salmon sandwiches — in the beautiful outdoor setting of the historic Congress Hall. A classic Cape May experience that dogs are welcome to share.

The Rusty Nail
A laid-back beach bar close to the water, The Rusty Nail is a perennial dog-friendly favorite. Dogs are welcome in the sand area and at picnic tables, and the menu even includes a dog menu with treats like grilled chicken and veggies. Great for a casual lunch or sunset drinks after a beach day.

Fish House
Situated near the legendary Sunset Beach, Fish House offers outdoor dining with stunning water views — and they have a dedicated dog menu. The combination of fresh seafood, bay views, and dog-friendly hospitality makes this a must-visit during your stay. Close to Higbee Beach!

Elaine’s
Right in the heart of Cape May near the Washington Street Mall, Elaine’s is a lively spot with an open-air patio that welcomes dogs and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Standouts include the bananas foster french toast, mahi fish tacos, and Elaine’s burger — plus live music most nights. A great all-day option whether you’re starting your morning or winding down the evening.

Bella Vida Garden Cafe
A charming spot on Broadway in West Cape May, Bella Vida has a dedicated "Pampered Pooch Patio" that makes dogs feel like the honored guests they are. BYOB, all day breakfast and lunch with a menu full of fresh New American dishes and vegan friendly options. One of the most relaxed and welcoming dog-friendly spots on the peninsula.

The Wildwood Dog Park

Just a short drive from our properties, the Wildwood Dog Park & Beach is a fantastic option for dogs who need to burn some serious energy. The fully fenced off-leash park gives dogs room to run, socialize, and play while you take a breather, and its on the beach! It’s a great stop on arrival or departure day, or whenever your pup is ready for some serious playtime.

-----

Mud Hen Brewery — Cold Beer, Happy Dogs

On the way to or from the Wildwood Dog Park, Wind down after a day of adventures at Mud Hen Brewery, one of the Cape May area’s most beloved local spots. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas, making it the perfect place to grab a cold craft beer, relax, and let your dog soak up the laid-back vibes alongside you. A great way to end a big day out.
